             The genre this particular text is framed in is that of compact disc covers. This is a relatively new type of genre, having been in existence since 1983, the year the first compact disc was released. This genre has direct links to the cover art from LP records in the 1960's and 1970's, and cassette tapes from in the 1970's and early 1980's. As compact discs became the listening choice for music lovers in the 1980's and 1990's, compact disc covers became an important tool for record companies to promote their artists and to sell their product. Compact disc covers, and the striking visuals that they are often composed of appeal not only to music fans, but also to lovers of beauty, imagery and art. The cover of a compact disc can at times be used as an escape for the reader of the text, in much the same way as the accompanying music on the compact disc itself. .
             Signifiers:.
             This text is framed in a plastic jewel case, and is accompanied by a disc of music of the particular artist. Pictures on the front and back of this text, and lyrics and words contained on the inside of the text allow the reader to recognize that this text is in fact a compact disc cover. Texts of this type also often list the name of the artist or band, and as well the text is given a title. These signifiers alone are what makes this text a compact disc cover, and distinguishes this text from other media type texts such a DVD's, video cassettes, and books.

A rock music discourse would assist the reader in recognizing that this text is framed within the rock music genre, and as such is different from other genres of music such as bluegrass, country and western and classical music. .
             Urban cities discourse: A discourse in the knowledge of North American urban cities would also be helpful to the reader in order to make meaning from this text.
