Learning Objectives in Literature

            Learning Objectives in Literature Assignment.
I interviewed three Metro College students and found that they did not grasp the objectives of the required humanity courses taken at Samford University. Each one of them expressed lack of interest in these courses because they did not pertain to their majors of choice. Even after I stated the universities mission statement, they still felt they were irrelevant to their goals they wished to accomplish in their own careers.
This overwhelming opinion was sort of a surprise to me. The prototypical student is between 18 and 22 years old and does not have a career while attending a college. I would expect opinions like this from them, but the majority of adults have families and careers and thought I thought they would realize their importance. Its is my opinion that the humanity courses taught by a university are worthwhile to an individual. The courses help make the student to become a more well rounded individual, not just prepare them for their prospective careers. I take my profession very seriously and want to enhance my effectiveness in it but I also want to improve myself as a whole. The humanity courses allow the individual to broaden their lives through a variety of courses. There is more to life than the rat race and "keeping up with Smiths".
This course in particular has been especially beneficial to myself. I am married and have kids and this course has helped me realize some of the mistakes I am making. It is quite easy to be consumed in one's profession and not devote adequate time to your family. I am the first one to admit that I do this. I personally rationalize that promotion and thus making more money is a even trade off to family time. This course in particular, has helped me realize that making lots of money is not the most important thing in the world. I have realized through the mistakes and hardships of the families (particular the Fathers) that family should always be kept first in my heart.
