Learning Objective Assessment

 

            Final Performance Assessment Task – Individual Power Point Presentation.
             Learning objectives to be assessed: Within the two principal core subject areas of the unit, Social Studies and English Language Arts, five common core standards are addressed: Reading, Writing, Speech & Listening and Language. These standards will also be assessed according to five learning objective areas; Academic, Emotional, Physical, Social and Spiritual.
             Academic Goal.
             In researching their own power point presentation students will:.
             1. Remember the key people and events that made the history of the 1950's and 1960's. .
             2. Understand the influencing factors which caused people to behave they way they did and events to happen the way they did.
             3. Apply their research in the writing and preparation of their presentation.
             4. Analyze and interpret their source material, adapt it for use in their presentations.
             5. Evaluate sources and the role people and events played to present a point of view.
             6. Create a presentation, which fully illustrates the depth of their understanding of the 1950's and 1960's and their ability to share a wide range of source material, explaining in detail a context relevant to the major events of the period.
             Learning Task.
             Make a power-point presentation to the class on a particular event or person from the 1950's and 1960's. .
             Historical Context.
             This was a time of post-war prosperity, which transformed lifestyles and cultural values in the United States. While Civil Rights were fought for at home, a Cold War had begun abroad. This was a war of attrition between the two Super Powers of the day - the Soviet Union and the United States. The strong Economy, the acceleration of the arms race and technological advancement even made a race to Space possible – the First man in Space (1961 USSR) and the First man on the Moon (1969 USA). Communication was revolutionized, and a new world map emerged but in the U.
