On Gun Control

Humans naturally seek protection, comfort, and safety. There have been many shootings within the past decade that have caused the people of the United States to be in fear of their lives; Virginia Tech, Sandy Hook, and Aurora, to name a few. When innocent lives are taken away, people will be sad, and more importantly people will be scared. A person's life can be taken away within a matter of seconds, how could you not feel afraid? It is those violent attacks on our society that cause the people within it to feel insecure and vulnerable, and they will more than likely do anything to want to feel safe again. It is difficult to go from these tragedies to the topic of gun control, as it is a touchy and complicated matter. Recently, gun control laws have become stricter in our society, with the intent of protecting the nation from harm and violence. However, our right to bear arms as stated in the Second Amendment should not be limited and should not be taken away, because though it may seem promising, it is an intrusion on self defense and will not make any real changes to our violent society. .
Guns are only one weapon that people can use to kill. People still have knives, hands, feet; a person could kill with a pencil if he wanted to. Guns are simply easier to use, and are easier to kill with. A person with an intention to kill will find a way to kill no matter what the weapon is, "laws against murder and violence do not apply to those who have given up on life and intend to die while killing as many people as they can " (10 Arguments Against Gun Control). If there is a motive, there will be a crime. Guns are faster, more accurate, and more reliable than other weapons. However taking them away will not stop criminals from committing crimes; a person with an intent to harm will ultimately finish the job. .
Taking away guns does not suddenly turn law breaking citizens into law abiding citizens, but it does take away defense from law abiding citizens who just want to protect themselves.
