Gun control

The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution states that "a well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." In society today, many arguments are aroused between people on the issue of whether the Second Amendment should still be in effect. Many U.S. citizens believe that the times have changed and something should be done. Since it takes thirty-eight states to ratify a change in the constitution, proposing that it be abolished would be meaningless. America needs better control of who is able to own a gun and the ability to enforce these laws. The second amendment needs to be changed in order to comply with modern times. .
The first point brought up is that the Second Amendment is outdated. The Second Amendment is one of the most misunderstood of the amendments contained in the bill of rights. Forty eight percent of the American public mistakenly believes that the Second Amendment guarantees a right to arm oneself to protect life, to protect ones property and protect against government-imposed martial law. Historians, scholars, and multiple courts, have concluded that the Second Amendment was established to protect state organized militias and not for the individual right to own a gun. While the constitution provides an individual with the right to arm himself, the purpose was to give the people of the U.S. during the Revolutionary period a chance to challenge the oppression of the tyrannical British Government. The people, for their sake and for the sake of future generations, needed the right to bear arms for security and the protection of freedom. This fight for freedom no longer exists as it did in Colonial America and the need for individuals to own guns is absent. The right to bear arms should be controlled and the U.S. needs to enforce it. Any citizen should not be granted the right to own a gun without reason.
