Economic Growth - Overcoming the Reaches of Poverty

With support now from non-governmental organizations (NGO) and multilateral official institutions such as the World Bank, developing countries have been engaged in programs to address poverty and raise economic development. Millions of people do not own or have formal rights to the land they live and work on. However, few such programs have been sustainable. Factors such as weak micro-foundations and political infeasibility have contributed to policy reversals or failures of such programs in many of these nations (Basher, 2013). Countries are still struggling with widespread poverty, economic difficulties, food insecurity and environmental degradation. Underlying that growth is a massive worldwide shift of people out of absolute poverty. In "Reversal of Fortune " in Canadian Business, Richard Warnica writes "In 1990, 79% of people in developing Asian countries lived on less than $2 a day. In 2008, that was true of only 43% of the same population. In Latin America, the percentage of the population living in absolute poverty halved over the same period, to 10% from 20%. In Sub-Saha-ran Africa, it fell to 66% from 75%, even as the overall population swelled. " There has been improvement, but more can be done, and the best way to achieve higher standards is raising economic growth. .
             Population Demographics and Economic Growth.
Population trends in developing countries will affect economic growth in a variety of different ways, and when one trend is affected then a domino effect occurs. Most developing countries are poor, capital is scarce, and labor is abundant, and population growth adversely affects their economic development. Every increase in population has led to more problems than benefits. One negative effect of population growth is that it requires massive investment in social infrastructure. Due to the shortage of investment funds, social infrastructures like education, health, and care of the environment will to decrease, exactly when an increase would be beneficial to the economy.
