Importance of Quality Childhood Friendships

In contemporary society, there is a distinct correlation between one's social status and well-being. In the world of psychology, in the realms of the psychoanalytical perspective and the sociocultural perspective, the importance of quality relationships are assessed during early childhood and even into early adolescence. Ways that children learn and interact in order to develop friendships affect how stable their ego will be upon entering adolescence. Aspects in an egalitarian relationship such as: leadership, cooperation, conflict resolution, coping with rejection, and self-assessment of self-esteem will be addressed. Psychology scholars have placed an increasing amount of emphasis on the essentiality of quality peer relationships in the development of a bolstered self-esteem; this claim is further illustrated by how children interact with loneliness, deal with leadership opportunities, and expand their ability to deal with conflict-resolution as they mature. (Lerner, Alberts) The conclusions derived from this research will enable both parents and teachers to encourage and support better, higher quality relationships to enable a stronger sense of confidence and security in a child. .
             Egalitarian Prototype.
In the absence of an adult or authority figure, a child will associate the cause of a healthy relationship with themselves. In the egalitarian prototype of a relationship, or a relationship in which there is no established leader, there will be an increase in confidence because any progress or accomplishments made will be associated with their own doing. (Bennett & Hartup, 1999) People have an intense desire to feel accepted. They want to maintain already existing bonds and acquire more bonds in order to have a strengthened sense of security in their social lives. (Roy, and Mark) This principle applied, it is logical that if two young children were together without an authority figure, they would then attempt to form a positive bond that will result in a friendship.
