The drug user, by definition, includes themselves in the crime through their choice of taking the drug or selling, while the victim of sexual abuse makes no such decision. When children fall victim to sexual violence they are left feeling powerless, often threatened into silence and made to feel both shameful and somehow complicit in their act. The ramifications of the abuse can lead to many severe emotional problems leaving a child with the perception of having little control over their own life. There is no doubt that drugs use is a serious problem throughout the country, but the psychological, mental, and emotional destruction caused by child molestation places it in the same pantheon as murder. .
