Discovering the Islamic Faith

 

            Islam is the second largest religion in the world. People who follow Islam are known as Muslims. I myself am a Muslim who is still discovering many things about the world of Islam. This religion contains many traditions and holiday. For example, Eid Mubarak is a huge traditional holiday celebrated by Muslims all over the world. Islam has been known since the seventh century in Mecca Saudi, Arabia. Muslims refer to the Almighty God as Allah.We believe he created the universe and all living things including man kind. A muslim purpose of life is to submit to the will of Allah and to go to Heaven after death. Muslims are suppose to live by following the Holy Quran and the Five Pillars of Islam. These Five Pillars are; Shahada (daily confession of faith), Salat (daily prayer), Zakat (giving charity), Sawm (fasting during the month of Ramadan), Hajj (the pilgrimage to Mecca.) It had been known that there are several prophets in this religion. However, the last prophet which is Muhammad is considered to be the greatest prophet. He is known for being the greatest prophet because the Quran was revealed to him. (Father).
             The Quran was revealed to Muhammad in Arabic by Allah. This holy book was revealed to Muhammad so that he can spread the teaching of Islam to mankind. This book was revealed to Muhammad in the ninth century. In the Quran, there are 114 chapter. Although the original Quran is all written in Arabic, there are now versions with the English text of the Quran or translations. Muslims can approach or reach out to Allah by praying and reciting the book of Quran. The book has remained unchanged and unaltered meaning that it hasn't been changed since it has been revealed.              Muslims are found all over the world in every/any nation, race and even color. Considering it's population is about 2.08 billion. Their holy symbol that we use is the crescent and star. (Jan Thompson 51)Muslims place of worship is called a mosque.
