" ("Definition of Consumer in English"). Throughout our project, we are referring to a consumer as the first explanation found in the Oxford dictionary. We agree on the second statement from the dictionary as well, except that we only see consumers as living, breathing humans. An example of a consumer in our case is anyone who purchases food, even though we mostly focus on adults. We dedicate an empirical chapter to illustrate what role the consumer has in the food waste chain. .
Social activism.
Activism plays an important role in the creation of change in a society and it is important to understand what an activist is in order to fully understand the activists chapter. We use the definition from Amherst College to define it. "An activist is anyone who is fighting for change in society. An activist can be a student attending a rally against tuition increase, a politician fighting against international human rights abuses or a mother of a child killed by a drunk driver talking to students about drinking and driving" ("Amherst College." 2014). The definition by Amherst is on 'social activism'. To begin with we found that activism alone was what we wanted to work with, but when reading this definition, we realised that we do in fact work with 'social activism'. We look at activists as being people who are fighting for a cause they find important to themselves. As the quote from Amherst states, the personal life of an activist does not have to be linked to the behaviour of that activist. We have also chosen to dedicate an entire empirical chapter to this concept.
Epistemology and Ontology.
In our project we would like to mix two opposite views, due to our different working questions. At some points in our project the objectivistic view will be very useful. Our intentions are to interpret relevant knowledge as something that is external and is not relying on the influence and perception of the individual.
