The Result of Civil Disobedience

Henry David Thoreau who was American author ,said that "I am too high born to be propertied, To be a second at control, Or useful serving-man and instrument To any sovereign state throughout the world." (goodreads.com). Thoreau thought that the problem is obedience. During the history, people obey to leaders, kings, dictators. Most of them damaged their citizen's life and property. Therefore, people think that obedience is very bad thing and we should escape from it. In this situation, civil disobedience occur that can be seen so many samples around the world. However, It is so wrong for our times. We have western civilization. There are the rule of the law that has regularized and minimized the injustice that existed before the rule of law. It is most important point for democracy. Some claim that civil disobedience is provider of democracy and every citizen should show their disobedience against government and its laws. However, in reality, it can cause very serious problem for democracy. It damages government authorities and creates an atmosphere of violence which can be said as most worrying problems for the democracy. I claim that civil disobedience is most dangerous enemy for the democracy and democratic countries.
Civil disobedience destroys democracy due to ignoring the rule of law by citizens and causing a feeling of insecurity in a country. When people are in an action of civil disobedience, they automatically ignore the rule of law but in democracy, the rule of law is most important point that must be in the democratic countries. The rules are made to provide equality, justice and democracy by the government. However civil disobedience destroys them. In his essay, Van dussen point that,'' There is no man who is above the law, and there is no man who has a right to break the law. Civil disobedience is not above the law, but against the law. When the civil disobedience disobeys one law, he invariably subverts all law ''.
