They prepped the camps with what seemed the easiest ways to kill off the captives. The Nazis took Auschwitz from a Polish army. They then kept the interior of the cabins as they were. The cabins had originally been made for much fewer people than the Nazis kept in there. Not saying it would be better if it was built from scratch, but the Nazis had underestimated the large amounts of groups of people that would be flooding into Auschwitz. They didn't have nearly enough food, room, or other necessary things. This is one reason Jews lived in such poor conditions. After they made the interior of the cabins and chambers, they started to produce millions of striped pajamas, with numbers to keep track of people. The striped pajamas were uncomfortable and tore easily. At Auschwitz, to prepare for killings, the Nazis had thousands of cans of food, and zyclon B, which is the poison they used in gas chambers. They would also have different triangles on the pajamas, to classify the captives for why they were imprisoned. This all lead to symbolization. .
Once Nazis started shipping the targeted groups of people to Auschwitz, they made the striped pajamas a symbolization of their imprisonment, and gave them stars and triangles to classify them for their religion or sexuality. "I found pride in wearing the star, It was who I was, and I was proud" (Anonymous). They have moved them out of their houses and to camps to Auschwitz. Once the victims were brought to Auschwitz they had their clothes taken away and were handed pajamas. These pajamas had numbers and triangles on them which told the soldiers why that person was there. Not only were there numbers on their pajamas, they also had it branded into their arms. They would get a new set of pajamas almost every six weeks. That might seem less horrible than six months or so, but they were outside everyday working and sweating, and getting covered in mud. Along with the pajamas, prisoners had to wear either wooden or leather clogs.
