The Life of Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King Jr, born on the morning of January 15, 1929, was one of the most inspiring and influential people. Throughout his lifetime he led other African Americans, through nonviolent protests and marches, to fight for the integration of the American society and for the equal treatment of the blacks. Starting out as a pastor in Montgomery, AL, he embarked on his journey, preaching about the significance of love and acceptance and equality. A man of powerful words, Dr. King grew in the ranks among the minority favorites through boycotting and public speaking. Although these acts were predominantly non-violent, the police force didn't approve and arrested King and his followers on numerous occasions.
It is documented that Dr. King was arrested around twenty times and assaulted at least four times. Even though he was incarcerated, the "Letter from Birmingham Jail", written in August of 1963, provided a foundation for a harmonious society, where the woes of penury and distress are fictitious. The main point that can been seen across the letters was to determine whether injustices are alive. If an injustice was identified, Dr. King wished to use peaceful means to correct the injustices. In saying this, he felt as though actions that could be potentially harmful to a society should not be forgotten about but rather be dealt with. With these letters, he not only altered the American opinion of the segregation war, but he also surprised people worldwide by presenting what one dedicated man could do in the presence of extreme tribulation. .
King's speech at the March on Washington, in late August of 1963, was the pinnacle of a flood of civil rights protest activity that even managed to carry on into northern cities. He declared that he is still hopeful in mankind by saying "I say to you today, my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream.
