A Lovable Criminal - Walter White

The two began to cook and build the foundation of their characters. Walt and Jesse were off to a tough start in regard to trust and respect, but as they encountered dangerous situations, Walt and Jesse grew closer. A mentor/mentee relationship began to form. As their involvement in the industry grew deeper, so did the conflicts. Jesse's addiction to crystal meth became an issue for Walt and future business transactions, foreshadowing Walt's selfishness that blossoms later in the series as well as his growing greed. Jesse's love interest, Jane, overdosed on heroin, which created emotional unrest with Jesse. Nonetheless, Walt had good intentions. For example, to help his partner with his addiction, Walter checked Jesse into a rehabilitation clinic. Jesse's emotional character is potentially unstable and inept to run a business and created strain in the relationship with Walt. Regardless Walt's disappointment or frustration, he demonstrated sympathy and compassion for his partner Jesse. As the viewers are starting to dislike Walt because of his deviant behavior, he is sympathetic for Jesse, which allows the audience to sympathize for Walt's character. I believe the writers constructed Walt's character to be ambiguous in order to encourage viewer's attention. If Walter personified a rigid character that went through a complete change into the villain, I feel that the viewer's would relate and empathize less with the character making the show less enjoyable to the audiences. .
As the series continues, the relationship between Walt and Jesse ebbs and flows based on serious events occurring in their lives that brings them closer together or pulls them apart. The duo experiences significant, life changing events together and regardless of their emotional moments of hate, love, despair, and loss, their last interaction is a head nod concluding their relationship with a positive mutual understanding.
