Benefits of Sports Participation

In 1776 this country, the United States of America, was established. That is a long time - 238 years to be exact. Now, with that leading sentence you make think that this essay is going to be about my belief in our great country, which I do believe in, but that is not what I'm going to write about and support. What this is going to be about is the power of sports. The reason I incorporated my first sentence into this intro was because we all know that fact, and sports have been around much longer. For example, there is the belief that Hercules, a son of Zeus, had started the ancient Olympic Games. If you don't believe this myth, which you have the right to since it is a myth, we have records from Olympics that took place in 776 BCE. These Olympics were performed naked and the only events were sprints and long distance running. To put our country's age in perspective to how long sports have been recorded, it's about nine times longer. Sports have been a constant for as long as the human race has been around and has in my opinion, provided a base for people who are active to become the best person they can be and has helped many reach their full potential.
As long as I have been able to walk I've been playing sports. Whether it be my dad throwing baseballs to me and having me throw them back to him or right now as a college student athlete. Sports take a lot out of a person. However, some of the stuff that it takes away is to the benefit of the athlete. Exercise has been scientifically proven to relax the brain and take stress off of the mind. It make take time away from you, but it also allows for you to relax and take your mind off of the stresses around you. For myself, I have always had better grades when I am in season. This might be because of the stress it takes off of me or it could be helped out by another point I will make in this next paragraph. The time you spend exercising takes everything around you away and makes you focus on the task at hand.
