Canada, America and the War of 1812

             4. Great Britain colonized much of Canada at the time, the American military wanted to eradicate them from North American and expand their captured land.
             5. There was also long-lasting tension between the two nations from the Revolutionary War where Britain was defeated by the Patriot army.
             6. A group of Republican Congressman who were named the "War Hawks" were in favor of going to war with Great Britain. They reasoned their thirst for war by stating that the British were out to make their lives hell. .
These four main causes started the war between America and Great-Britain. The most important cause of the war of 1812 were the economic sanctions put upon the US by the French and British. The British clearly antagonized the Americans to the point where they responded to the British actions with violence. The war had taxing effects on all those involved, although the war gave Americans a name for themselves among the other powerful nations. .
Those involved in the war were the Americans, British, Canadians, and Native Americans. In this paragraph I will touch on how each of these groups were affected by the War of 1812. Throughout the history of their existence the Native Indian population has been manipulated by almost every one of their allies. Yet again, this war the British abandoned their Native Indian counterparts. The Aboriginal people preserved their land and culture most successfully in Canada. Many Canadians civilians suffered at the hands of American soldiers, these soldiers would burn and loot whole communities. The American troops committed acts of arson and looting in the Battle of York. The problem was that the British didn't provide sufficient protection for their Canadian colonies. Powerful American militias could overtake multiple cities at a time. However, when the war came to an end relationships between Canadians and Americans went back to normal. .
The War of 1812 and British still has lasting effects on Canada, to this day as a lifetime resident I noticed that we still have monuments such as Queen's Park in Toronto, Ontario.
