Love in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

He lives a perfect, sinless life, serves people who are sinners and who are followers of Him, and then dies on the cross for all of our sins. Gene Veith states that "The world 'Aslan' is simply the Persian word for lion. The Bible itself uses the lion as a symbol for Christ," (68). In Revelation 5:5, God's word reads "Stop weeping; behold, the Lion that is from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome so as to open the book and its seven seals." The Word of God uses a lion as imagery for Christ and it is interpreted to be a symbol for Christ in this children's novel. Ultimately, "Lionsare awe-inspiring. Their strength, their dignity, their ferocity fill us with wonder and admiration. These qualities are 'kingly.' The animal itself evokes feelings that make it a worthy symbol for authority and majesty," (Veith 71). Veith further discusses about how Aslan in Narnia is a symbol for Christ in our world (78), and that Lewis intended for reader's to make the connection from Aslan to Christ (82). "Their strength, their dignity, their ferocity fill us with wonder and admiration" is a way that many Christians would describe the feeling that the Lord gives to His children when they accept Him as their Lord and Savior. He has strength, dignity, and ferocity that overcome all evil and things of this world. One of the reasons that this theme has such an effect on the readers is because "The power of language is suggested also by the use of refrains. In The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Mr. Beaver first whispers a secret: 'they say Aslan is on the move-perhaps has already landed.' Repetition of 'Aslan is on the move' thrills the reader as it does the children even before they know who Aslan is," (Hart, 40). Waiting in anticipation for Aslan is the same way many Christians wait in anticipation for the Lord. Initially, the event of introducing Aslan into the book was huge.
