narrative theory in Underworld

.
What this meant was he essentially could become either a vampire or a Lycan, but Lucian wanted to make him a hybrid of both species so he would be strong enough to kill the vampire elders. .
Viktor's motive was to preserve the vampires purity of blood and aristocratic position believing the vampires "better" than the Lycan. He intends to achieve this goal by destroying the Lycan's. So we now see Viktor is the true villain and Lucian's motives righteous.
The second sphere of action is the hero who is played mostly by Selene. She starts the film as a champion of the vampires, a death dealer whose sole purpose is to hunt and destroy Lycan's. Although she later becomes the saviour of the Lycan's when she kills Viktor. Her perceived past and the false story of her rebirth was the reason she hated the Lycan's. Selene had been told that the Lycan's killed her family and she had been turned by Viktor to allow her to seek revenge. .
But as is later confessed by the beaurocrat Craven (Shane Brolly) it was Viktor himself who killed her family. Selene's passion as a character for her cause ironically places her on the border of being the villain herself, killing Lycan's and continuing the genocidal war for centuries. Perhaps even more ironically she is the one who becomes the saviour of the Lycan's.
The third sphere of action is the donor, the person who provides the hero with an object of some magical property. In this case there are three possibilities" the donor could be either Michael the unwilling saviour of the Lycan's who defeats Viktor to a point where Selene can kill him. The second possibility is Selene, Selene bites Michael saving his life and turning him into a half-Lycan, and half-vampire so he becomes strong enough to defeat Viktor. The third option is Kahn (Robbie Gee) who supplies Selene with new weapons and technology designed to track and kill Lycan's. .
The helper, who helps the hero, is the fourth sphere of action.
