Crime and Gun Control

 

            When the word "crime" is mentioned anywhere, a gun will be among the nearest things the brain will start thinking about. Gun and crime tend to go hand in hand, but the real question in the society is are they connected or associated? Are crimes caused by guns? And if so, will a law restricting the ownership of guns stop crimes? There are many questions and issues that surround the issue of gun control in the United States. The issue of gun control has been a constant debate within the United States society since the establishment of the United States as a nation. Molly Ivins author of Get a Knife, Get a Dog, but Get Rid of Guns argues that something needs to be done about guns and that the best way for that is to either get rid of them or make stricter regulations on guns without banning them completely. The main contentious issues when gun control is mentioned is whether it leads and promotes crime or not in America and what is the best course of action to keep everyone safe.
             The general public should be supporting gun control; Gun control should be undertaken by banning the possession of guns by individuals in this society. This is mainly due to big number of crimes that are associated with guns. The availability of guns has fueled many deaths that result from shooting of different people using hand guns. Several people have left crippled and other moaning as a result of gun violence and crime. Guns are known to be very powerful weapons that can cause destruction, death and harm to anyone who meets a flying bullet shot form a gun. The power attributed to gun is not only socially but also physically (LePore). In the United States only, almost half of all the household are known to own at least a single gun. The household possessing guns attribute their reason to self-protection. However, about 30,000 United States citizens are recorded to die from gunshots on a yearly basis.
