Indus River Valley Civilization

Although these important founding crops brought a huge contribution on bringing specialization and advanced innovations for the Indus River Valley Civilization, it also caused the existence of consolidation between the Indus River Valley Civilization and the Fertile Crescent (Lockard, 2011). The relationship seen between the two is significant in regards to the spread of written language since much of the language within the Indus River Valley harkens its inspirational roots derived from the Fertile Crescent. .
As a way to come up with an expansive political and social system, the Indus River Valley Civilization had to maximize specialization by increasing its surplus of food. Since rice was seen as an important main crop and it was also possible to grow this crop two or three crops a year, especially in the Ganges, the civilization was able to fulfill their needs by the use of this crop. But in order to do wet rice farming, it was completely necessary to put a well-organized, input of labor so that they can put up the water and irrigation systems that were needed (Lockard, 2011). This shows that as a main cause of growth and advancement, wet rice farming was seen as an important product within an already progressive society. Firstly, the idea that the Indus River Valley once started out as having a complex government system during its evolution goes to show that innovation takes a large amount of effort and time to develop. Secondly, the civilization shows that a government system has the ability to slow down or delay any developments along the way. Although evidence shows that it would have been almost nearly impossible to do wet rice farming without the building of the irrigation systems as a way to keep labor organized, the important factors that play within a government, such as social stratification and ownership, deviates away from the combined societal dedication to society's advancements (Bodley, 2001).
