We all know what a tank, helicopter, and scuba diving suit are, but many do not know that these inventions were thought of during the Italian Renaissance by arguably the most famous of Renaissance men, Leonardo da Vinci. Leonardo was born in the Italian town of Vinci in April of 1452, and was the illegitimate son of and notary and his mother who was a farmer's daughter. Leonardo lived with his father and while living with his father he was sent to become an apprentice of Andrea del verrocchio. While under the apprenticeship of Verrocchio Leonardo learned all of the skills required to become a professional artist. The first of Leonardo's commissioned paintings was actually one of Verrocchio's works of art, which was the an angel in Verrocchio's "baptism of christ". This single work was what changed the art world, and was the moment when the student became the master. During the Renaissance, paintings of people were always from the frontal view, but Lonardo changed this by painting the angel twisted, giving a side profile of the angel. This was the first time that this technique was used. (Bio. A&E Television Networks).
Although many people know of Leonardo da Vinci's works of art, that aspect of his life seemed to be the least important to him. His true love was science and nature, which is what spawned so many of his creations. Inventions such as the Tank, helicopter, and the first known conceptualized scuba suit which were way ahead of their time were drawn up by Leonardo da Vinci. Although Leonardo never saw many of these ideas come to fruition, his bright and intriguing mind has influenced many of the things that we as a modern society take for granted.(Bio. Perhaps the world's greatest work of art, was not surprisingly created by Leonardo da Vinci. The Mona Lisa dates back to around 1503, and is believed to be a portrait of the wife of a Florentine merchant named Francesco del Giocondo.
