"Time is very precious, I started say to the class. You guys may seem to think its not a big deal now, but time will go by in a flash without you realizing it. I remember a movie I mentioned to a few students regarding this project. I mentioned, "Your time is like a jail cell, except it's all nice and comfy and there doesn't seem to be any reason to leave. The door is right open for change. Till one day, time runs out, and the cell door slams shut, and suddenly it's too late.".
A third important aspect of self-regulated learning that some researchers have included in their conceptualization is the actual cognitive strategies that students use to learn, remember, and understand the material. Remembering is very important, the more you take in everyday, the more you excel at configuring your memory of yesterday. (1985).
My favorite part of this whole project is explaining the Ganas article to the students. I hate it when people easily stereotype about students in the valley on how they say students don't want to go to college. Actually, its quite the opposite. Students do want to excel here, they need motivation. x. A Pew Hispanic Center (2009) report found that "all Hispanics ages 16 and older are more likely than the overall U.S. population ages 16 and older to agree that a college degree is important for getting ahead in life-88% versus 74%" (p. 50) They understand that getting a college education is the way to make it in the world and where do they get that advise, there parents. Parents who didn't go to college. Parents who didn't get an education. Parents who try there most to motivate their children to go to college, to be somebody. That just might be enough for a majority of students. They don't want to end up like there parents. A majority of the students we questioned said that their parents are their motivation. Because everyday they implement "Ganas" in them. And its not only parents that help motivate students.
