Changes in my community mean that now my ancestors are able shop at any store, and to live and work wherever they want to, or wherever is available. However, there will always be those certain people that will never change; for instance, one morning my mom and I were in the checkout line of a local store on the other side of town, the person in front of us was of the Hispanic decent and spoke only the native language of Spanish, the clerk was very nice and professional in trying to do her job until the Spanish speaking man left. As soon as he left, the clerk started making very rude comments about letting people in the store if they did not speak English. My mom and I were offended and my mom did reply to the clerk that segregation was over a long time ago and anybody was allowed in the store whether or not they spoke English. The clerk did apologize, but the damage was already done. .
In my personal neighborhood there are people of many different cultures, but the majority of us are Hispanics. We all seem to get along just fine here and all of our children play and interact well with each other, except one of the neighbors that have recently moved down the street. My new neighbors are of the European culture and they do not get along with any of us that are not of their same race. Their children are not even allowed to play with any of the Hispanic children in my neighborhood. This situation does not seem to bother me at all in anyway except that it affects the children. My children are now questioning why the new kids on the block are not allowed to play with them, and that is a hard question to answer with no reason. My children also play football for our neighborhood team, and within the team are different members of each ethnic group with the majority being Hispanic, and we all get along great. Our football club has recently joined a new football league in our area. The director of this new league has been discriminating against our football club since the first day we joined.
