             Codeine overdose is not very common. Some of the overdose symptoms of codeine are shrunken pupils, troubled breathing, drowsiness, heavy sweating, cold and sticky hands, seizures, convulsions, nausea, and vomiting. Most overdoses cause in a complete heart stop and the majority of the time it can be fatal.
             Codeine is very popular in American rap sub-culture. A rap artist from Compton, CA drinks lean every single day in place of drinking coffee. A DJ from Houston, Texas died from an overdose of promethazine and sleep apnea. A supporter of this DJ and his popularizing drug, named Big Moe is just another of the many causalities that this arising drug has caused. Another rapper that also died was Pimp C from the rap group UGK. Sizzurp is increasingly deadly in patients diagnosed with the disease of sleeping apnea. Many of these artist including Lil Wayne, Juicy J, Three 6 Mafia, Far East Movement, Fifty Cent, ASAP Rocky, Schoolboy Q, Jarren Benton, Odd Future Wolfgang, Rick Ross, Snoop Dogg, DXM, Dr. Dre, Wiz Khalifa, Bar Baby, and Big Moe. This drug is very popular in rap concerts. Many songs "chopped and screwed", which cause the supposed effects of the drug by slowing down the music. Mackelmore made a song that shows the potential of this drug in a negative way. His friend died from an overdose of the deadly drink promethazine with codeine. He explains how his friend thought he was the coolest person ever for using the drug. He also tells about how he has seen three other friends pass away on oxycontin.
             Codeine is a very easy drug to get physical and psychologically dependent on. The drug is fast acting with effects that can last up to three hours. The drug cocktail is made really cheaply. The ingredients needed are as follows: Promethazine with codeine, sprite, mountain dew or any other lemon-lime flavored carbonated beverage. Sometimes the concoction is topped off with a sweet hard candy like jolly ranchers for added sweetness to the bitter drink.
