My Experience as a Writer

I don't consider myself a good writer. It is difficult for me to just come up with ideas for writing. I've seen myself that way for many years now; from elementary, to middle school and to this day. I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. Both of my parents are from Mexico, never finishing high school. Growing up, my first language was Spanish and I went on to learn English watching cartoons and in pre-k. At the time, my parents spoke and understood English very poorly. What surprised me me at the time was how my parents did their best on helping me with school work as I got older. In 4th grade I remember my teacher, Ms. Delacruz, pushed me so hard on being able to understand a higher level of English Vocabulary. I had her as my teacher for 3rd and 4th grade. Ms. Delacruz was from the Philippines, and would always tell me "If I mastered English, then you can too". She was the first teacher I had that pushed me so hard on my vocabulary in order to become a strong reader and writer. Unfortunately, she was also the first teacher I disliked, due to mi interest in music. I played trumpet for 2 years and happened to get really good at it. When it came time for finals I was burden to show my literacy skills. My scores weren't the best but they got me through elementary. .
It was the beginning of my 7th grade year, excited to finally go into middle school. I attended W.E. Greiner Exploratory Arts Academy, I wasn't there because of the Academy but because I belonged their according to my address. I knew it was going to be a challenge attending that school. I had two literacy classes in 7th grade, English and Reading class. The reading class was there to help me comprehend the proper structure of literacy. That class would give me the strive to read more books. Nothing fancy instead books such as Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Reading more also helped improve my writing skills as I saw structure throughout the reading, still I would struggle with writing.
