Affirmative Action: Dismantle or Remantle

            Affirmative Action: Dismantle or Remantle?.
Affirmative action was a policy that was brought about as an attempt to bring reconciliation after the civil rights movement of the 1960's. The initial principal that birthed Affirmative Action as a policy or law of the land, was to create a means by which America could right the wrongs of the impact of 245 years of slavery, as well as the impact that other kinds of discrimination have had on specific groups of American society. Just think, of the 375 years that African-Americans have been on this continent, 245 were in slavery, 100 in legalized discrimination and only 30 involving anything else (Wilkins, 1995). Affirmative action is a policy that was meant to create an even playing field for everyone in our society. Within the context of this policy, employers, administrators, contract managers were held accountable to give minorities, women and other special interest group's additional consideration in their decision processes when applying for employment, various memberships and acceptance in educational institutions. .
While aspects of the Affirmative Action policy implementation were flawed, many of its principals hold positive attributes. Attributes that if applied properly and appropriately, could have multiple positive outcomes such as more minority CEOs more minorities in school and women earning more than 76 cents to every male dollar (Bowler, 1999). It could significantly change the outcome of what dismantle ling Affirmative Action has caused, a permanent underclass. .
             .
It is my argument that Affirmative Action, properly and appropriately implemented can still have positive outcomes that our nation initially had in mind for populations of America's society. Affirmative Action has been in place long before it was coined Affirmative Action. There is still evidence of "non-traditional affirmative action" practices in various aspects of American society, American schools, clubs, and even minority and gender biased organizations.
