Not realizing that he infuriated Medea when she felt dishonored by him for leaving her and their children in order to get promoted. Medea transformed into a raged suicidal mother. She was emotionally unstable. In the mix of having a forceful divorce, she was also facing exile from the city of Corinth by King Creon, he fear that she would try to take revenge for what her husband did to her. In the quest for the Golden Fleece she murdered her own brother; because of this act, she can never return home. So she was also with out a place to live. But Medea was not in any instant giving up a victory to her enemies, she refused to suffer quietly. She began to think of a way to get back at her husband, his new wife, and her father. From the beginning she was mad and not willing to understand why Jason would abandon her and her two children. First she needed a safe haven for her after she got her revenge. That is where Aegeus; King of Athens comes in the play. Aegeus was a Friend of Medea and trusting ruler he quensedently ran into Medea, Aegeus struggled in having children and Medea offered to help him procreate a child for exchange of him providing a safe haven for her. Aegeus not aware of her plans vows to grant her safe haven in Athens, providing Medea with the means to ensure her own survival. Kwon that she had refuge she needed to find a way to kill the king and his daughter. She pegged the king to let her stay one day so she could make preparations for her departure. .
The king underestimating her powers granted her one night with the condition that at on crack of dawn she would have to be on her way. That night she sends a servant to look for Jason and request for him to come once more into her sight. When Jason came at her request she peg for his forgiveness. She also pleaded to him to keep the children, so they would not have to encounter any of her enemies. Medea went on saying how much of a fool she was, because he was just doing the best for her and her children.
