Stalin, Lenin's successor/ would aim at dramatically transforming the government and controlling every/ aspect of citizens" lives (Ralson 150).
When Stalin rose to power he turned Russia into a Communist country. All though it didn't work out well with the United States of America, who strongly believed in democracy and freedom of the people, it helped Russia in dealing with their social and economic needs. When Russia looked at the United States of America's policies it decided to develop a plan that they felt would be more efficient. Instead of giving the people a say in their government it provided a fast and simple way of making decisions, the government would make them for the country. Stalin used the basic ideas of Karl Marx to help him develop his own form of Communism. Thus, providing what was the lower class with the same wages as the upper class, causing no starvation, and eliminating the classes. In a communist country you work hard, long hours and get paid the same as everyone else. This may cause people not to be motivated because there is no way to change your status in society. However, Stalin attempted to keep them motivated. "Be proud and stand up, for this is a time in the U.S.S.R. that will be remembered for years and centuries to come, you will be part of history so make your self stand out and be proud that you can be considered one of mine" (Stalin 4). This shows how Stalin felt people should be motivated for his benefit not their own. All though Stalin makes speeches that say he is going to consider you one of his, he ruled by terror, which was a huge help because it made the workers work to the best of their potential or else their dead. .
In the early 1800's to the early 1900's a handful of countries in Europe were using industrialization, to help them build new weapons and create a better way of life. These countries that industrialized early were world powers when it came to wars because of their new inventions such as the machine gun.
