Many experience large, unremitting case loads, long days, little support for the ministry, and a bad reputation from the general public to top it off. Many citizens who are asked about the role of the social workers in the child protection sector, view them as family disruptors and baby snatchers. Judith Roache, a social worker with the ministry of child protection for children in the foster care system, feel that social workers a given a bad rap because essentially the role of the social worker in this particular field is holding up a mirror to the imperfections in peoples lives. She goes on to explain that "maybe the ministry has taken on to much, and has allowed that perception to be perpepsureated and has prevented people from being more human, being more neighborly."(Roache) The general public doesn't want to get involved, and in turn leaves it to the ministry and social services to handle the problems. This creates a system that has been developed and maintained to regulate and dictate inappropriate behaviors and living situations for Canada's youth.
