My Story

Mentors and role models can serve as very important figures in society, helping others to succeed in whatever they choose to endeavor. In my life there have been many influential figures to help model the way in which I think and behave. They have ranged from entertainers to athletes, politicians to teachers, and even friends and family. Though I must say, amongst all these figures of influential status, none have compared to that of my mother. My mother has influenced me because of her determination, perseverance and loving personality. .
Growing up in New York City surrounded by a very busy atmosphere lived my mother and her parents. It was a certainty that my mother was destined to stand out from the rest, and from that pass on to me her dominant traits. My mother was a very determined young lady. She had skipped two grades in primary school because of her intelligence. She was meant to learn what there was to learn and share that with others. At the age of fourteen, she became pregnant with her first child, me. Because of this occasion, my mother was somewhat forced to undergo a speedy growth process from a young girl to a young woman. For others, this situation may have proven to be a curse of a future, but for my mother she saw pass the darkness and through them there was a way to succeed in her goals to finish school and obtain a degree from higher learning, college. Even though there was family there to support and take care of me while my mother attended school, it was still her who had to endure the pain of being away from her only child while she attended college. She had to sacrifice missing parts of my early life to higher her education. This if not anything else, proved to me that my mother was truly determined to accomplish her goals to make something of herself, and so that she could provide for her child. Also that education is the gateway to whatever you aspire for.
