Do We Need Gun Control

We've all heard the slogan "Guns don't kill people, people kill people". Is this slogan implying that guns aren't to blame for the hundreds of homicides reported annually in the United States? Do a majority of the US citizens agree with this slogan? For those of us who don't agree with the slogan do we think that there is a need for gun control?.
             Second Amendment.
The Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution states "A well-regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed." The Second Amendment was written in the 18th Century. Back then there were no concealable guns. Instead of small handguns, there were huge muskets. There were no guns that could fire off over 100 rounds per second. Muskets fired one single shot and then it took them 30 seconds to reload it again. When the amendment was written I don't think that the forefathers would have imagined that one-day we would have automatic assault weapons. While the amendment guaranteed the right to carry a gun, it seems that some people's interpretation of it has changed for the worse today. .
             Guns Use Today.
People today own guns for different reasons and most of the reasons go directly against the principles of the Second Amendment. There are well over 150 million handguns in America today.
Here in the present time we see that guns are the cause for many senseless deaths. For instance The murders of seven office workers in Wakefield, Massachusetts, by Michael McDermott, the Columbine murders and even watching our local news many of the homicides we hear about are the result of a gun shot from a drug related incident. These incidents are reasons why there should be some type of gun control. We all know that gun control would not prevent wanton killings and random mass violence but it would probably help reduce the high statistical numbers that we see today. Even with gun control we all know that demented killers will simply find another way to kill.
