Diana preferred the city to the countryside. Prince William was born in June 1982 and their second child Henry was born in September 1984. The marriage wasn't happy and Diana struggled with severe depression, low self-esteem and eating disorders. As time went by Charles and Diana drifted apart. Charles started dating his former girlfriend Camilla Parker Bowles. Diana loved her children and spent a lot of time with them instead of her husband. In the 1980's she felt like the royal family put to much pressure on her and she felt ignored. In 1992 Diana and Charles were separated and the final divorce came in 1996.
Leading a New Life.
One year after the divorce from Prince Charles, Princess Diana cut back on her charity work. Still, she remained a humanitarian figure, above all through her campaign against antipersonnel land mines. During the summer of 1997 she began seeing Emad "Dodi" al-Fayed. He was the son of Mohammed al-Fayed, owner of Harrods department store in London and a great businessman. Before Diana and Dodi met, Dodi led a dissolute life in Hollywood.
After the death of Princess Diana, an article was published in the Paris Match. It was an interview with Diana and Dodi, in which they talked about their life together and their plans for the future. Diana expressed her deep feelings for Dodi and he told the journalist about his dreams of a wedding. She also said that she would continue with her charity work together with Dodi in the future. If it weren't for Diana's two sons, William and Henry, they would leave England. During the months before she died she was happier than ever before. She felt that she could do what she pleased without being concerned about the royal family's opinion.
The Death of Princess Diana.
On the night on 30 August 1997 Dodi and Diana spent one last evening in Paris before leaving for London. After a restaurant visit they were followed by paparazzi. The chase resulted in a crash into a cement pillar in a tunnel.
