Just after he hears that he has been successful in securing the appointment, Dunny reminds him of the stone-in-the snowball incident to him. After that, Boy dies one day and the police found a stone inside his mouth. At the same time, Dunny discovers that he has lost the stone, which is the stone that inside the snowball and he usually uses it as a paperweight. The stone, which is a mystery to the police, is not a mystery to Dunny and Eisengrim. All three of them know clearly that the stone is the "killer" to the Dempsters. It totally changes the life of Mr. Dempster and the mind of Mrs. Dempster, influences the life of Paul Dempster (Eisengrim). With all the reasons, Boy is commits suicide.
First of all, Boy would like to take back the responsibility of being the "killer" of the Dempsters. Back to the time in Deptford, Percy (Boy Staunton) loses to Dunny with his new and expensive sled. He thinks that it is unfair to his sled, so he tries to defect Dunny by throwing snowball at him. For the last one, Boy put a stone inside the snowball and throws it at Dunny. However, the snowball doesn't hit Dunny and hit Mrs. Demspter who is an expectant mother at that time. Because of this incident, Paul Demspter (Eisengrim) is born and Mrs. Dempster becomes "simple" mind, which is kind of crazy. Everybody including Mr. Dempster think that Paul is the "killer" of his mother. It is because of him, Mrs. Dempster become "crazy". After a long time, by chance, Dunny, Boy and Eisengrim sit together and chat. They talk about everything. Finally, they come to the topic of Eisengrim's life; they talk about the "killer" of his mother. At last, Dunny tells all the things, and Eisengrim knows the fact that the "killer" is Boy. Because of the snowball that threw by Boy, his mother becomes "simple" mind and he becomes the guilty person.
