Flag burning

Protesting is one of the rights that every United States citizen is ensured. There have been times when this right has been threatened by others. When these threats happened our armed services answered the call to protect our freedom. The American flag is the symbol of the freedom that those people gave their lives to protect. I believe that it is wrong for some one to burn a flag in protest because it stands for the freedom that many people have given their lives for and I do not think that these people would appreciate that kind of protest. I have not served in the armed force nor have I fought for my country but I also feel that the flag is a sign of respect and appreciation for all the people who have served our country and also the people who have died to protect it.
My feelings are that when I see a flag it makes me think that I am proud to be an American. The flag stands for many things but the main thing that it stands for is freedom. Now if some one goes an burns a flag to me it says they want to burn their freedom. There are times when flags should be burned but not out of protest but out of respect. Once a flag has a hole or has been torn it is respectful to burn the flag in a proud manor. Burning a flag in protest is not respectful and should not be done. I do not think that there should be a law against flag burning because if some one really wants to burn a flag it is their right to do so. .
I have a couple war veterans in my family, and any one of them would be proud to say they served our great country. They may not approve of everything our government does but they are proud of what our nation is. Any veteran I can think of would say that flag burning is a terrible thing and whether or not people say it is nothing personal, most veterans take it that way. I take flag burning very personal because although I may not agree with some little things our government does I do believe in what it stands for.
