Finding a Career Direction

Describe and evaluate one experience that significantly influenced your academic interests. The experience might be a high school course, a job, a relationship, or an extracurricular activity. Be sure to explain how this experience led to the goals you now have yourself, and why you think the academic program for which you are applying will help you to reach these goals. .
             Interest to Career.
Here I was in my counselor's office trying to choose my courses for my junior year. This is when my counselor, Mrs. Palacios, informed me about a new engineering class called Engineering/Architectural Computer Aided Drafting. Since I had extra space in my schedule, I decided to enroll in this intriguing class. While in ECAD I have learned many different skills, from how to draw a circle, to how to draw a complete floor plan of a four thousand square foot house. I have also learned how to draw subdivisions, detailed drawings of suspension bridges, wall sections, isometric drawings, elevation drawings, and more. I have also learned how to work the blue print machine to make copies of original drawings. As well as drawing on AutoCAD, I also learned how to board draft. After learning all these different techniques, I realized that I wanted to pursue a career in Civil Engineering.
The reason I became interested in Civil Engineering is because of ECAD. I enjoy the idea of being able to design highways, bridges, houses, foundations, and more. I enjoy shadowing my brother for the fact that he is a Civil Engineer himself. Going with him to the houses he is building, and watching what he does is beneficial and supplemental to my interest in becoming a Civil Engineer. Watching how he performs his job is an advantage to me. Since I was very interested in high school about Civil Engineering, I knew I wanted to go to a good college with an excellent engineer program.
Ever Since I attended the Texas A&M Kingsville "Senior Day"" field trip, I knew that the school of Engineering at Texas A&M Kingsville was the school I wanted to attend.
