The Miraculous Journey of Rubin "Hurricane" Carter, by James S. Hirsch is a book that everyone should read. Although, this book has many sides to the story, it is filled with emotion, put together in a skillful way, and gives well detail. Not only does Hirsch get Carter's story across he gives a vivid account of the whole story and is consistent. In this book it told Carter's compelling story which you can feel the anger, frustration, happiness on each page. I thought that Carter in this book gave a heart felt account of his life and he wanted to make an effort to get his side across in a positive way. I would re-read this book many times just because of how all the scenes are built up. .
James S. Hirsch is a former staff writer for the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times. He is currently working on a book about the Tulsa race riot of 1921. He lives in Needham, Massachusetts.1 Hirsch decided to write this book because his agent called him one day and told him that Rubin "hurricane" Carter might be willing to work with an author about his life.2 After calling Carter several times Hirsch told him that his story about his life has not been told yet and he would like to do it.3 He had interests in race, sports, and pop culture.4 .
This is a non fictional novel that is still controversial today. Many people believe that Carter doesn't tell the entire truth about the way things really did happen.5 The theme of this book is how an injustice was given to a man who was not given a fair chance but overcame it, and received justice in the end. Truth also played a major roll in Carter's life. It started with the police would arrest him for no reason. The prosecutors in his case used people who they knew were not honest. .
