Drunk driving

 

            On January 7th a good freind of mine got a dui while trying to go back on base. Now that freind of mine is in a lot of trouble,as am I. However the two of us could be in more trouble.For example,In the state of california an adult over the age of 21 with a bac of 0.08 is considered leagally drunk. For a first time offense that person could face 90 days to one year in prisonand fines up to $1000.00. The penaltys onley go up for each subseqent offense within seven yaers of each other. Aftier all is said and done,in fines a person who gets a dui will pay $5263.00 and that is without the cost of a lawyer wich usally ranges at $2000.00 more dollers. All of this is just the civallian consequnces if you get caught In town or the base decides to take the charges out to the local town. The military penaltys include Non Judical Punishment,reduction in rank and restriction time. As well as Mandated aa classes and/or a fedral offense. All of this is Of course If you don't crash and kill someone or injury them for life. In the year 2002 drunk driving accidents accounted for 41% of the 42,815 traffic deaths. That adds up to Over 17,419 people a year. At that rate a drunk driving accident occurs once every thrty minutes on average,and it is estamated that three out of every ten people will be involved in a drunk driving acciodent at least once in there life.
             Having done this research I can honestley say I will never let a friend get behind the wheel drunk again.
