Death Penalty

The youngest person that the state of Texas has executed was 24, the oldest was 62, and the average age that Texas executes is 39. Women have also played a very little role in the Death Penalty. Of the nineteen thousand executions only five hundred and fifteen have been women. That is less than three percent. .
The race of people is said to be a large and illegal factor in deciding if a person should be sentenced to live or die. According to www.coadp.org, an African American is four times more likely to be sentenced to die than a white man. There have been one hundred and seventy four black people killed when they had a white victim and only twelve white people killed when they had a black victim. The race of the defendants executed since 1973, the race of death row inmates, and the race of the victims is easier to understand through a chart:.
Race of Defendants Executed since 1973 Race of Death Row Inmates.
Race # of People Percentage Race # of People Percentage.
             Black 278 35 Black 1605 43 .
             White 455 57 White 1683 46.
             Hisp. 53 7 Hisp. 348 9.
             Other 19 2 Other 82 2.
             Race of Death Row Victims.
             Race Percentage.
             Black 14.
             White 81.

Looking at these statistics, I"m sure that people think that those who argue injustice because of race are crazy because the numbers are highly in favor of white people. The numbers are indeed higher but I don"t think that when people see these charts, they are considering the fact that the number of people and the percentages are close between the African Americans and the Caucasians, but African Americans only make up twelve percent of the population today.
