"Affirmative Action and its Role in Society".
A young African American man is about to make a decision that will dictate and impact the rest of his life. Thus far this is probably the most important decision that he will make in his life. This decision is deciding which colleges to apply to and eventually attend. At this time however there is chaos surrounding the admissions of minority students to colleges. The problems" cause and solution is Affirmative Action. .
The young African American man agrees with everything that Affirmative Action provides and stands for. He Views it as a protector and guardian against inequality and fairness. This young man looks at the average statistics of minority students and sees that the test scores are incredibly low along with their GPA's. Then he views himself and realizes that his 1100 SAT score and 3.6 GPA has some type of meaning and "pull" in this college thing. He is also attending a predominantly white all-male school and taking college level classes. Due to Affirmative Action, should he be admitted to some of the more prestigious schools to meet a quota or to add more "ethnic diversity" to the school?.
The second scenario concerns two students who have just graduated from college and are in the process of applying to graduate school. One is more qualified than the other, but the other is accepted into a medical school in order to meet a quota. Imagine! Five years down the road you need tp have surgery. Which doctor would you rather have operate on you, the one who is more qualified or the one accepted in order to meet a quota?.
These are merely a couple of scenarios, which may shed some light on the problems that arise because of Affirmative Action. What is Affirmative Action? Who benefits from it? Whom does it hurt? Does Affirmative Action affect minorities in schools and at jobs? These Topics will be discussed in this paper.
             What is Affirmative Action.
