External and Internal Factors of Dell

             Globalization.
Although new to the PC industry (1985) Dell's management has made Dell a global company with global production spanning three major world regions: America, EMEA, and Asia Pacific. Dell sells to markets that are interested in its particular business model. Dell sources from many locations especially those that have manufacturing capabilities and a low cost structure. These markets vary by region and countries. Dell organizes its manufacturing plants by region. For example, in Asia Pacific, the plant is located in Penang, Malaysia. This location was selected due to the high-tech company doing business in Malaysia gets a five-year tax holiday, which means they are entitled to five years without having to pay the country's 30% corporate income tax. The government wanted Dell to do business in their country so badly that they gave them a ten-year tax holiday. In China and Japan the plant is located in Zaimen, China. In order for any company to do business in China, companies are required to have a plant on the mainland. Although Dell's EMEA headquarters" is located in Bracknell, United Kingdom, in 1990 Dell opened an assembly plant in Limerick, Ireland for the low cost corporate tax rates and the high quality of labor found there. This area is a focal point to serving all of Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (K. Kraemer, 2001; J. Dedrick, 2001). .
As you can see, Dell's executives have gone to great lengths to expand and globalize its product and brand name. Unlike other PC makers, Dell avoids outsourcing by assembling its own product. This gives Dell control over the final assembly and configuration process. Dell also makes extensive use of call centers for both sales and technical support. Dell call centers are located regionally to optimize telecommunications and language considerations. .
             Technology.
Within the last twenty years or so computers, faxes, mobile phones and their accessories, handheld, digital devices, the intranet as well as the Internet has enhanced businesses and impacted the way organizations do business.
