Stress

School workloads among college students are unbearable at times. Every class a student takes requires excessive note taking, attentiveness, concentration, and dedication. These classes can be very stressful on a student, especially when certain subjects may be more difficult than others. Stress can come from the work environment as well. Unfortunately those students who have to help provide for their family, make car payments, pay for school, and so on, working is not an option. .
It is possible that a student enrolled in college may come across a professor he may not like. Already this is putting a damper on the semester because the student has a preconceived notion him and the professor will not get along. In the story "University Days," written by James Thurber, Thurber writes how a particular student could not pass botany. The student, for one reason or another, had a dreadful time looking through a microscope. This upset his instructor, which ultimately led to his failure of the course. Instructors have the power of passing or failing a student. Usually in this type of situation an instructor would try and help a student struggling with the basics of the course, but unfortunately this instructor did not think it was his responsibility.
Thurber also wrote about the special treatment of jocks at Ohio State. It was obvious in the classroom that the professors went easier on the athletes, due to the fact that they represented their university. Test questions were made easier, and questions asked in class were answered by the instructor while the athlete received the credit. It was not fair to the other students but that was how it went. When I played football in high school, the special treatment my teammates and I would receive the week of an important game was incredible. Some days we were even excused to leave school early to go home and rest up before a practice. One time I was caught cutting an English class, but because I was an athlete I got off with a warning.
