On 24th, May, 2003,"1:99 All Star Charity Concert", where hold in Hong Kong Stadium organized by Hong Kong Performing Artistes Guild, was aim at collect fund of education for children who s' family were affected by SARS. On that day, there was no new case of SARS, and on the day before, Hong Kong and Guangdong was relieved the warning of traveling from World Health Organization. All those good news made the 30 singers and over 30000 audiences enjoyed the atmosphere of jubilation which has not seen these months. .
The idea of the name of the "1:99 concert" was come from Wong Ka Wai.
1" means all for one and one for all, and "99" means Infinity, that means Hong Kong people's confidence of against SARS is never effaced. All the income of the concert, would be contribute to the education funds for children who s' family were affected by SARS.
There are no songs especially for against the SARS, no delicate stage and excellent dancing, Alan Tam, Kenny Bee, Jacky Cheung, Andy Lau, Sammi Cheung, Leon Lai, Beyond, Andy Hui.etc., almost the most powerful singers in Hong Kong were there. Jackie Chan also appeared on the screen, to encourage the Hong Kong people to be supportive and show their love to the SARS families. .
The Hong Kong stadium was full on that day. During the 5-hours concert, singers were all wearing the casual clothing and singing encouraging songs, they hope to express the message "We are at the same side during the worst time." on that way.
At first, the atmosphere of the concert was quite serious, until Andy Lau and Hacken Lee sang the song "stupid child", all audience started to cheer, the few- months-lasted pressure was totally released. While Alan Tam and Hacken Lee sang the song"Friends",audience was holding fluorescent stick, Alan Tam said touchingly "this means Hong Kong was lighten up once again, let's the 10 hundred million Chinese in this earth to see this scene.".
At the end of the concert, all singers sang the song" the heart of Hong Kong" .
