Playboy of the Western World-Review

The Playboy of the Western World: Response.
Taking the stage are the actors and actresses who have rehearsed repeatedly to perfect the scripts that have been presented to them. Almost two hours of performance is put out by confident actors to an intrigued audience. Though many plays are looked at solely for their entertainment value, they can also be looked at through what the actors as individuals contributed to the play. With this play, The Playboy of the Western World, containing 16 actors and actresses, there were many contributions from the actors to analyze. .
I would be dishonest if I didn't admit that only a few actors and actresses jumped out at me as adding a "special something" to the play. It is almost obvious from the beginning of a play to tell who is appropriate for a part and who doesn't fit their role. I feel that all of the actors/actresses fit their roles, but only Christy, Margaret and Widow were overly effective. .
Christy Mahon, played by Fred Quillin, fit this role physically. To me, a person who would kill his father is fierce and big. From my view in the audience, Christy appeared to be about five-foot tall and about 25 years old. Even though this didn't fit my mental picture of what the character, a killer, would look like, his stature was still so powerful. Many other characters admired what he had done and the women, specifically Margaret and Widow, wanted his hand in romance. My main thought was that an actor who looks so small and innocent, being put into a role of a criminal and women magnet, is so unordinary yet very powerful and believable.
Margaret Flaherty, called Pegeen Mike, who was played by Margaret Malyn, fit the role in the fiery and fierce area. From the very first line of the play, you could sense her sarcasm and strong attitude towards life. She spends most of her time in the public house owned by her father and works very hard.
