Comparing Macbeth to Watergate

 

So Macbeth thought it was impossible for trees to move up hill and for a man to be born not of womb. He thought of this as a type of shield for him. It kept him from being harmed, "Nixon carried the "mandate of 72" with him as a sort of protector as thought its magic powers would protect him from any attack from his enemies. As in the tale of that Scottish king it persuaded Nixon that his throne was safe" (Greider 2) But they were both very wrong. There was nothing stopping the government from getting in Nixon's way and accusing him of the crimes he had committed. Macbeth also is proved wrong when a messenger comes to him saying, "Let me endure your wrath, if it be not so .
             within this three mile may you see it coming; I say a moving grove" (Shakespeare 32) The messenger is basically telling Macbeth that the forest seems to be moving up hill. This is what the apparition told Macbeth would happens if he was going to be caught. So when he told Macbeth that, he knew he was on his way to being caught. So like Nixon, Macbeths whole idea that he would never be caught, crumbled right before his eyes. This .

             is the same thing that happened to Nixon. Nixon once said, "I made my mistakes and in all of my years in public life, I have never obstructed justice." (Greider 3) He denied all involvement the entire time until he knew there was nothing else he could do so he just gave the tapes up to the government. So he also came to the conclusion that he was going to be caught no matter what he did. .
             In addition, Macbeth relates to Watergate is the way in which they were both caught. Nixon was caught because people discovered his taped conversations, which caught him red handed. It showed him talking about the different parts of the scandal. The doctor caught Macbeth. One night when lady Macbeth was dreaming she confessed to all the crimes and talked about them. But the whole time the nurse and doctor were listening to everything she was saying.
