I have been very active ever since I was a young child when I would follow my older brother around, trying to do everything he did. This helped me become very athletic. Through athletics I have grown and developed many strengths. Dedication is one attribute I have taken from being an athlete. An athlete has to work day in and day out to improve his or herself. This is something I focus on everyday. I try to run a little faster, lift a little harder and do something I did not do the day before. Another part of being an athlete is the mental side of it. One has to learn to control his or her mind and develop that area as well as the physical side. There are times that it would be very easy to give up and throw in the towel, but I always try to look at the bigger picture and the goals I am trying to accomplish. Attitude is not only important in athletics but in everything one does. My attitude is a definite strength for me. .
One area in which I need to improve is my tendency to procrastinate. I do not have a problem with short projects such as math problems I can do in class. I try not to visit in class but rather start the assignment immediately so I do not have homework. Long-term projects like writing projects are much easier to put off. I know that I need to improve this now because, from what I understand, college classes are dependant on outside work.
Over the years I have been involved in many activities; FCCLA, choir, swing choir, and every sport possible. FCCLA has helped me grow into a better leader and a better person. When I was a junior I attended the state leadership conference for the first time. Here, I listened to a very inspiring speaker. The speaker really opened my eyes and made me put things into perspective. That experience alone has changed me. Choir and swing choir are two things that I have enjoyed very much over the years. I love being around the people and love to sing.
