Economy on Childcare

Affects of the Economy on Child Care.
During the last few decades there has been a major change in the way America looks at childcare, and the main reason is due to the new diversity in family structure. Another reason for the change in childcare is due to the addition of both parents in the workplace because of the falling economy. The well-being of the children should be the up most important factor to a parent, even if that means giving up his or her job, resulting in a lower income, in order to stay at home to tend to the needs of the children. Unfortunately too many families have no other option than to leave their children in the care of a childcare center in order to be able to provide for the financial needs of the family.
The average family in the 1950s consisted of dad going to work and mom staying home with the kids. However, this is not the average family lifestyle nowadays. In some families both parents provide a source of income, and in the case of a single parent family, when the parent is at work there is no parental figure around the house to take care of the children. In the last forty years the number of children living with two parents has decreased by almost twenty percent. Since 1975 the percentage of women with children who work has risen thirty percent among married women and twenty-five percent among single women. The roles parents play in families have changed to adapt to the varying economy and advancing role of women in society throughout the past fifty years. .
It is not always an option for one parent to stay at home, but it is in the best interest of the children. Parents have a special bond with their children, and in most cases are best qualified to raise their children and develop their sense of values and morals. An argument in favor of this statement was given in a report by the National Academy of Science, which found that both structure and function of the brain could be altered by ones early experiences.
