Popular Culture Focus Study: >> Fashion.
Fashion is a vital component to this global popular culture in which we live. The origins of fashion can be explored by looking back in time, with the changing trends and marketed products varying throughout each generation. Fashion and what people were wearing goes as far back as to looking at ancient times. Since then fashion has evolved throughout society, adapting to the environment in which it has been marketed.
Fashion is widespread within global popular culture, but its development happens in different places around the world. Designers & "trend setters- are continuously working to advance and expand fashion and its limits. A Fashion Trend, could start off in a struggling designers lounge room, the designer could then be acknowledged by a fashion label, which would then lead them to becoming a national name, and their clothes being marketed within their home country. If their clothing is popular and found out to be appealing to the fashion industry it could then lead to them being recognized globally, with offered support by an international fashion label, with their clothing and ideas given the chance to grow to a universal level. .
The consumption of fashion is done around the world on many different levels. When talking about the leaders in fashion we think of names such as "Gucci, Dolice & Gabbana and Versace- these designers are international leaders in the fashion world and their products can only be consumed at a high price, therefore enabling only the people of a high socio-economic background to indulge in such products, to the individual these would be considered luxury items which create a certain exclusivity which fashion so heavily relies on.
But the consumption of fashion is witnessed everyday, at shopping centres, retail outlets and online. In the world today, fashion is everywhere. It has become impossible to get away from the marketing and promotion strategies of fashion and nature in which society endlessly consumes these products.
