Hate

Most of the time when an individual is bullied, he or she is not the only person affected. Most individuals who are picked on can usually be associated with a larger group or community of people. Because it is hard for a person to take hateful actions out against an entire community, one person (or a few people) from the community is targeted; as a result, the entire community suffers.
Mathew Shepard, on the outside was a bright, noble young man. He went about his daily routines like any other individual, and yet something about Matthew was different than that of the majority of his peers. Matthew Shepard was gay. (you need information about him who was/is he what did the attack involve?- where was it/ dates?? ) For this reason, and this reason only, Matthew Shepard was attacked (by on ). While Matthew Shepard was only one individual, he represented the gay community as a whole and therefore, while the attack was made on an individual the entire gay community suffered. Unfortunately the gay community is often a target for hate crimes. Because the gay community goes against the "norm", their diversified behavior stands out. Some people do not know how to deal with other beings irregular behaviors and turn their confusion into hateful attitudes. .
"Hate, like much of human feeling, is not rational, but it usually has its reasons. And it cannot be understood, let alone condemned, without knowing them." (Sullivan 475). Like terms such as happy, sad, anxious, depressed (etc.), hate is also a feeling. When a person is feeling hatred towards someone, they usually posses inner desires of hostility or bitterness. While many people do not posses the ability to understand why they are feeling a certain way, there is always a rooted motive underlying their feeling. In order for a person to overcome their feelings of hatred, they must first come to terms with their emotions and understand why they are having these feelings in the first place.
