            Introduction: "A custom loathsome to the eye, hateful to the nose, harmful to the brain, dangerous to the lungs, and in the black stinking fume thereof, nearest resembling the horrible stygian smoke of the pit that is bottomless- King James 1 of England and 1V of Scotland, 1603. The consumption of tobacco was first recorded in human history in 500 A.D. by the Mayan civilization of Central America. From then, it was only at the end of the 19th century where machines made specifically to mass produce cigarettes, made it a wide spread craze, and from there, it was only in the sixties and seventies when King James's views were realized, and cigarettes did in fact have harmful side effects (Haugton, 1997:6). In 1997 alone the consumption of nicotine was estimated to be 5 trillion cigarettes a year. There are many causes that cause people to smoke, 3 of the most obvious would be their addiction the drug nicotine, the power media has had and has over the people and lastly because of the influence of role models. The effects of smoking are known by most roughly, but the seriousness of these effects are taken to lightly. Among the most obvious effects are diseases caused by smoking, the effect it holds on the worlds economy and finally it causes a scar on the generation brought up by smokers.
             Causes: .
             1) The drug nicotine are among a few of the harmful chemicals found inside a cigarette, (name a few other).
            
             • How it causes people to get addicted and how it works on the human body.
            
             • How hard is it to quit, statistics.
             2) Media influence create a false image that smoking is cool.
            
             • Celebrities and movies, name a few.
            
             • The advertisements by the giants of tobacco even though they are band.
             3) Smokers normally start in their teens, influence form their role models in society could encourage such a vice statistic show that .
            
             • From a family where parents smoke .
