            Different Types of Internet Connections.
The Internet is a method of communication and a source of information that is becoming more popular among those who are interested in, and have the time to surf the information superhighway. The following essay will discuss the different ways of connecting your home or business to this superhighway of information. In my essay I will discuss 3 main types of internet connections: Cable, Digital Subscribers Line (DSL) and of course Dial-up.
An ISP, or Internet service provider, is a company that provides customers and businesses access to the Internet. There are two main technologies that are profoundly impacting the way people access the Internet: dial up which has the standard speed of 56kbs (kilobits per second), and the broadband area that boasts speeds up to 1.5Mbps (Megabits per second). When a customer or business chooses what kind of connection they want many factors should be looked at like, how fast do you need your downloading speed, how reliable, and how much money you are willing to pay.
Dial up is the least expensive access technology that's price is usually between 10 to 30 dollars. Unfortunately, dial up is also the least favorable of the choices. The reason for this is that dial up is an old technology that is being outdated because of broadband. Dial up caps out at 56kbs where as, broadband highly exceeds that limit. Thereby, making Dial up a decreasing choice for most customers. To use dial up you must be subscribed with an ISP and have a telephone modem. A modem is a device for transmitting digital data over telephone wires by modulating the data into an audio signal to send it and demodulating an audio signal into data to receive it. The user then places a call to their ISP, the modem at the ISP answers the call, and the two modems use audible tones to transfer data back and forth. Dial-up modems do not use separate frequencies, then the telephone because they use sound to transmit data.
